For Carol

You called her Glory as you tucked me in

Blood scrubbed, placenta frozen as her first cry

You tucked me in and kissed my forehead

Crept out, party ended, left us to “sleep”

A tiny miracle in our huge bed

You crept out and whispered “Glory”

Touched my face, read my mind

As you read my body hours earlier

Warm words blanketed our moment

When glory showed her face

Warm words tucked me in, a mother

Glory showed her face and

Our midwife knew her name.
