Feast of the Solstice

For Epona

Feast for Epona

On sky

strong sun

and breeze

lowered sod on the mound

and stomped it into place

Bulging belly vacant

Traded for bulging earth

As summer’s promise

Faded like solstice sun

I whispered

as I put you in the ground

Lowered petals, placenta, dirt and ashes

Around your tiny body

Unformed but twelve weeks

Sister’s placenta, your bed

Mourning unworn booties

flip-flops dirtied

blood-stained palms

earth-stained soles
